The balance between text, image, background and shape must be adapted to the requirements of the specific design. Six variants of this balance are described on this page. They merely represent options and should not be viewed as strict templates.
1. Full-page image
This variant is well suited for images on which a headline can easily be placed. For this purpose, the background of the image needs to be rather quiet. To make the text and logo as visible as possible, a gradient or shadow effect can be placed below them. However, this must be subtle and should not stand out.
2. Image/Background
We often work with longer texts that need to be as legible as possible. For this purpose, it is usually better to position the text on a white background.
3. Tile V1
Tiles are used to separate content in a structured manner. As described under (Design elements – Tiles), there are three different ways to use tiles. In the first variant, the entire tile (or multiple tiles in a grid) is visible on the page.
4. Tile V2
In the second variant, one edge of the tile is off the page.
5. Tile V3
In the third variant, two edges of the tile are off the page.
6. No image
In a scientific/academic context, it is sometimes advisable to avoid images altogether.
