As a comprehensive icon library for general topics, we use Google’s Material Symbols (Outlined) library. This features more than 3000 glyphs.
This library is available as a Variable Font. The font style “Thin” is preferred. If the icons are so small the thin lines start to break, “ExtraLight” can be used. In more extreme cases, “Light” can be used as well.
Icons can also be used typographically. In this case, the height of the icon corresponds to the uppercase height (not ascender!) of the font. The space in between should be the square of this height. The color of the icon should be the same as the font color.
